| | | Haha I love the "assault on a family member paperwork" Deffinatley random as hell. And the graffiti has gotten pretty colorful down there. Always used to be black and white.

| | | There's one hell of a story that goes along with the pictures of the plant, but it'd take a long while to type out. We'll just say the night came to a close with a nice adrenaline rush. We spent about two hours in the tunnels running under Broad St before we went to Belle Isle, but there was no film in VAman's camera so the only shots are with my phone. I didn't get any pictures of the power plant, since we hit that at night, and camera phones suck at night. Tunnel entrance. Stalactites from a hole in the roof of the tunnel. Shot up at a manhole, too covered in spiders to open. Shameless plug for the website. Leaving the tunnels two hours later. On Belle Isle, hitting the first thing we saw. Thinking this was the old prison? My last shot before daylight ran out.

| | | What is the Power Plant like? Is it really big? I am looking for a Saturday trip within a few hours of Raleigh, NC to test out a new 4x5 camera, possibly with glass plates. If anyone wants to be a guide or let me in on some info shoot me a message - thanks!

| | | The plant itself is big but its mainly one huge gutted room. IDK that it would be worth a trip from NC unless you hit a few other locations also.

Just because this place is gutted says nothing of the history behind this place, and you are exactly right to say that their is always a better way to picture a location.
I do believe thats what we all seek correct? And that is....to picture the essence and natural beauty of how we all differently see the places we visit correct?
And graffitti last time I checked is not an issue if it is pre-existing last time I checked. Vandalism graffiti may be but when displayed on the interior of a building that has seen visitors since its closure during the Vietnam era forward...I feel that there is a story to be told. History is in fact all a matter of context and the story the next guy tells from the last.

| | | The photos aren't bad - and unless we specifically attempt to do so photos from exploring are more just visual memories from a trip, they don't have to be artsy fartsy. not every explorer is a professional photographer. Anyway - I haven't been exploring since December of 2007 and I'm about to go insane if I don't get somewhere soon!

| | | I'm in California til the 28th, but when I get back we'll definitely get something rolling. VAman'll be around for a while, too, so I know he's down for some UE. I'll be working at Scream Forest/Creepy Hollow every weekend in October, but other than that, I have a free schedule when I get back to the east coast. We'll figure something out.

| | | The Building you thought was a prison was a machine shop. My bike club holds a huge event under that thing each year its call cycle slaughterama check it out. The prison was a bunch of smaller wooden buildings that are no longer there. Theres also a concrete pool thing on the top of island.

I hardly think that signing my name with sharpie that will eventually wash off in a drain is so terrible a thing to do.

| | | Minimal text written half a mile inside a sewer drain with the name of our site and two user names seems more like a guest log and less like graffiti to me. If it helps to draw other explorers into the community and doesn't consist of penises, hearts or anarchy symbols, I see no harm.

| | | Im thinking if its in a tunnel with raw sewage its ok... I mean I dont think anybody is going to miss the natural beauty of the place, but that may be cuz I dont do drains. Sometimes Graffiti is the only thing going on in a place.... It can be sad, but some of it is art. The photo may give the wrong idea that UE advocates tagging and what not. I just dont think this one is that bad. It is a good thing to bring up though.
