| | Pioneer Mine < on 8/24/2009 6:56 PM >
| | | I bought a new wide angle lens on Saturday, so I decided to make a Sunday day trip to Pioneer mine to try it out. All shots were taken with a Sigma 10-20mm lens, even though some would have been better with a different lens, I didnt feel like changing over. Round trip time was 10 hours driving 4 hours exploring and 600km on the odo. The Pioneer mine was once one of the richest goldmines in BC history. Opened in the early 1930's it operated for almost 40 years, until finally closing in 1971. Most of the site now just lays in rubble, but there are a few remaining structures to explore. Building and area is very unstable, so be extra careful if you check it out.
After I was done checking out the building, I climbed out to be greeted by this furry friend.....
Hope you like.

| | | Nice location! Gotta love the old wire wrapped wooden pipes!
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |

We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained we must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be by the better angels of our nature. |

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |

| | | Nice pics. That one was on the to-do list, but the sheer amount of driving (and the forest fires closing the road) were daunting. Nice to see there's still a bit left over.

| | | Possibly. The shaft is vertical and looking into it there was much rubble about 20 feet down. Whether that was just junk that got caught up as it fell into the hole, I do not know.

Ya that is a long drive from the Lower Mainland. Fire crews had a command post set up about 5km up the Hurley FSR, helicopter and many fire crews there. The road was open though, and I saw no evidence of fires along that route, but I know it has been very bad up by Tyax. There is so much to see in that general area, abandoned houses galore in and around Bralorne.
