DC, when I was there a couple months ago, honestly didn't seem to have much "security" outside of the guards inside and in front of museums, major buildings, etc. Actually now that I think about it, I don't remember seeing any other kind of security..and that's in the busiest areas of the city. So any abandonments, most likely farther away from all the major tourist areas, shouldn't be too firmly guarded or patrolled. But then again...bums..

Would it be possible to have only everyone's list of their city suggestion and why so that we could put all of the serious suggestions in a poll and vote?

I'm Fully QualifiedTM as long as you just need to have some ninja skillz (you didn't specify which) and not be an actual ninja.

I really wanna go wherever this thing is gonna be held!

I suggest that those who are serious about going put down money on the hotel. I think in doing so we secure a host (the hotel) and can have a more reliable roster. The funds could be held by a paypal account and distributed back out later to whoever's name the room or rooms are to be in.

Once ya'll figure out a date and a place PM me so that I can put money down for this thing!

My vote is for Louisville. There is all sorts of things in and around there to explore. Not to mention a couple hours south of there is yet another abandoned asylum/hospital type place. Not very big, but it has a lot of underground tunnels and what not.

I think the only bad thing about a hotel is if people get drunk and either break things or cause a disturbance to other guests, the room owner is liable.

Just sleep in an abandonment. I'm sure the bums would appreciate the company! ;p

we could piggyback off of and snag free food and junk from their hotel.

Or, we could just pay for our food like most people do without stealing....

Ah! but it's not stealing if they're giving it away free! Just make sure it's the right kind of convention- I was exploring the local convention center during a diabetes convention. All the free food totally sucked.

Back to the topic at hand:

I like the idea of Louisville, so I'll go ahead and vote for it. I could be easily convinced to go elsewhere, though.

What about time?

Mid-December would be nice, though most people like to use the Holidays as an excuse not to attend.

Craig, you should post a poll for locations. Louisville and Charleston have been mentioned. Baltimore, Roanoke, Memphis, and Columbia are all viable choices as well.

Cincinnati is a cool town you might consider, despite it being just barely outside the technical realm of the Mid-Atlantic.

Cincinnati is right across the river from Louisville. If the meet up was there, then we could hop across the bridge and be right there. I live close by Louisville (about 20 min south) so I can scout some things out and see what I can find out. I should be back home around the end of Sept.
