| | | Hi, I'm in Seattle. I have some tips of places that might be fun to explore. The City of Mount Vernon is trying to revitalize their downtown by demolishing buildings at 509 main, 319 main, and 307 main. These buildings might already be gone because my info is from November. There is a large $.5-1.5 million demolition project in Hillsboro, Or. Something with the school district. The abandoned bridge in Tacoma on the Hylebos Waterway will be repaired and returned to full operation. Currently you can walk down the stairwell to check out the old mechanical workings and there is a good view of the water. And for all the drainers in us; a new 500,000 gallon underwater storage pipe. Created as a CSO overflow this drain is somewhere in Shoreline. And all this talk of exploration makes me want to go explore something. Lets have a meet up on Saturday March 21. The 6 Arms is a quiet little establishment on Capital Hill that has a upstairs balcony, which is the prefect place to hang out and have some brews. I will be there around 3:30 and am hoping for a possible exploration afterwords. You are more than welcome to come hang out.

| | | I'm in Portland. I haven't explored/discovered anything in a while, and it's making me nuts. There's a gigantic new building going up at the corner of SW 13th and Stark-ish. Every time I pass by, I want to hop the fence and go inside. It's probably guarded, or has invisible motion sensors. What to do?

| | | I don't know the building you're talking about but I do know that every construction site I've seen in the downtown area has an on-site guard. Sucks. But w/ this economy, I wonder...Would the poor job prospects lead to more people scrapping and thus increased security, or would the developer be looking to cut costs and put the security guards head on the chopping block to do so?

| | | Yeah, trying to explore in the Portland Metro is frustrating. Abandoned buildings don't stay abandoned long (if you can even find one worth exploring), and the geology of the area is such that there's hardly any underground. The Big Pipe would be pretty sweet though. Anyone done that yet?

| | | Was fun. I remembered how good the beer tastes at the bar and saw some familiar faces. Found a way into the underground and a warehouse. Only managed to set off one alarm, watch the PD respond, and then did not get caught. I think I will be holding these meetings on a regular basis. April 23rd is the third Saturday of next month. Same place, 4 PM. Bring some gear to trade and make a new pal. Possible exploration afterwords.

| | | Posted by Faustomatic Anyone around the Everett area? I just joined the forum a week ago. I'm not from here, so I really don't know what's worth checking out as far as UE is concerned. Honestly, I haven't done it since I was a teen in NJ. Back then I didn't have a camera, now I do and I've been looking for something worth photographing. What's worth the trip around here? Cheers Faust http://www.faustomatic.com

I am 25ish minutes north of Everett. There are some great places within an hour or so of Mount Vernon. My favorite so far is in Concrete at the Lake Shannon Cement Plant. Northern State Hospital is good too, NSH I can bring the kids and do some light exploring and they can enjoy the UEing experience with Mom and Dad.

| | | Ha, at least there's more than one of you these days! I used to have to hassle random friends into going with me, and usually they weren't up for more than one or two trips. Also I didn't have a car, just biked and boated everywhere or bummed rides with people. It shouldn't be too hard to find college students willing to poke around the steam tunnels at UAF, there used to be another little group besides mine up there, we ran into eachother once and they thought we were the cops I still occasionally get emails from people in Alaska who found my site, usually I direct them to UER with the standard warning about the signal to drama ratio. There also seem to be plenty of people interested in old mines at least on a cursory level, and pretty much anyone can be talked into abandoned buildings or dredges if there's no posted signs. You can always play up the side benefits, like finding cool rocks in mines or leftover training stuff at nike sites, or getting into secret passages (Hail Palmer Satan!)* or blowing up a propane tank at Site Bay and putting it on Youtube (who are those guys anyway?). You can also organize group trips and try to get more people involved, or get people from different areas together to split costs on a road trip. Anchorage sucks for UE, but there's always Whittier, and Portage/mines/trains/etc along the way. Find a way from the POL tunnel into the Anton Anderson, that would rock. A trip down to Seward and a couple kayak rentals will get you a LOT of bunkers, plus there's that orphan factory I never got into, and some kind of giant rock-blasted drain under/around Seward. Take a weekend and go climbing in Hatcher, there are plenty of open mines just outside of drunken-tourist-stumbling-range. Or take a week and go out to Kennecott, prove that the DNR is incompetant at sealing adits, and sell some boulders of copper to pay for the trip (they're everywhere, but good luck getting them down the mountain!) (*Palmer Satan is too busy growing pot to torture the wicked)
Turn off the internet and go play outside. http://spamusement...hp/comics/view/137 |
