It's that time of year again! Clocktoberfest is coming back in a big way for 2011! If you've been there before, you know the drill. There will be an underground rafting event late on Friday night. The bonfire party will commence on Saturday night with the traditional pilgrimage to the legendary Pits Cave. Sunday will even include an optional trip to the ruins of Union Park in Dubuque. It's going to be the best weekend-long campout in history, and everybody is invited!
It's the same as every year. A bunch of explorers, both veteran and noobs, are all welcome to come camp on top of a beautiful hilltop field in scenic Galena, Illinois. Enjoy the freedom and solitude of being out in a natural setting just minutes from the Victorian charm of Galena's ancient city streets. Listen to the roar of fireworks. Explore scary caves. Party, etc.
Bring your typical camping gear. You'll need a tent, sleeping bag or blankets, food, booze, headlamps, and whatever else you would consider essential to a normal outdoorsy type of camping trip.
The farm house has electricity, running water, working toilet, and even a shower, because we aren't 100% primitive.
The optional rafting trip on Friday night REQUIRES inflatable rafts and life jackets. If you don't have these items, don't worry. The cave boating is optional. Non-boaters are free to continue the party at the camp site.
There are no campsite fees or other bullshit like that. The vacant farm is owned by family members of mine. We have permission to camp there. Cost of admission is that you drive yourself to the party (or ride with somebody else). I know it may seem remote (even I have to drive five hours to get there) but this place fucking rules.
So be awesome, and get yourself to the greatest party of the season -- CLOCKTOBERFEST 2011 !!!!
